The talented makeup artist Brittany McClelland of Santa Barbara, CA and owner of Lokahi Makeup Artistry contributed  extremely useful information to a question a lot of women  ask “Do Makeup Primers Really Make a Difference?”.

“Makeup primers totally make a difference! I don’t work without them. At the bare minimum I always use a good eyeshadow primer to intensify the color as well as keeping the shadow from creasing a couple of favorites are:

Primer Potion by Urban Decay

and for the budget conscious makeup artist, NYX cosmetics makes a very admirable creme primer in 3 different shades/effects.”

Ladies there you have it! Makeup primers are a good investment to your makeup collection. We have an extra surprise tip!!!! We found a great video by  and she shows you “How to Make Your Own Eyeshadow Primer”

Get Keri Hilson’s Billboard Awards Retro Chic Look

If you saw Keri Hilson at the Billboard Awards you saw how flawless her makeup looked. Here are some of the steps on how she created Keri’s look:

Face:

Start with Skinflash Primer Radiance Boosting Makeup Primer, then apply DiorSkin Nude Natural Glow Creme Gel in #40. I applied Tarte Dark Circle Defense Natural Under Eye Corrector in Medium-Deep to under eye area and applied Banana Powder from Ben Nye so eyes lifted without looking too light and unnatural. I then used Queen Collection Mineral Bronzer in Light Bronze and  applied all over the face to create a light contour on the nose.

Body:

First spray legs with Dior Airflash Bronzer on her legs then apply Tarte Celebutante Dry Oil Shimmer Spray on top to add shimmer,  it makes legs look slimmer.

Eyes:

First apply Smoky Shadow Blast in Bronze Fire the golden color on the lid and brow and the bronze color in the crease then blend so the color natural fades. Apply Green Glow Liquiline Blast on top and bottom lash line then blend with a small tapered brush to diffuse color. Lastly add  2 coats of DiorShow 360 Mascara to lock in lashes so they blend with the faux lashes, this gives a natural look. I completed the look with Milani Black Liquid Liner with a slight wing for that retro chic look of the 70′s.

I added Girlactik Heaven’s Dust in Gold in the inner corner of the eyes and cheekbone so it really made Keri’s face pop!

Lips:
Lip Perfection Lip Color in Heavenly, Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush Lip Gloss in Mocktail Hour in center of lips so lips look full and sexy.

Brows:
We wanted to mute brows so I used Dior Brow gel in Shiny Blonde which really lifted Keri’s eyes.

Cheeks:
I applied Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 hour Blush in Tipsy on the apples of the cheeks.

Fabulous!

The Secrets to Making Your Makeup Last Longer

Tip 1: Protect Your Skin
Unless you want your skin to tan darker throughout the day, be sure to wear skincare products that contain SPF while outside, says Smashbox Cosmetics artist Green. She uses SPF formulas on models to keep their skin from tanning and appearing inconsistent in photos during all-day shoots.
Try: Olay Complete Daily Defense UV Moisturizer SPF 30, $14.99

Tip 2: Blot A Lot
“A lot of people make the mistake of toning down shine with powder puff and face powder, which can be problematic,” says Green, who uses blotting papers instead. “If you’re hot, sweaty, and shiny, you don’t want to add powder onto oil and perspiration, you’ll get a floury, chalky mess!” Instead, blot forehead, nose, upper chin, and the area above the eyebrows with tissue or blotting papers to absorb oils without disturbing makeup.
Try: MAC Blot Film, $12.50

Tip 3: Cool off Your Body
“Don’t expect to apply perfect makeup as soon as you jump out of the shower,” Green says. “All it’s going to do is absorb into skin and make you break out. If you’re hot and sweaty post-shower, allow yourself ten minutes to let your body cool down before applying makeup.” On the go? Green suggests carrying a portable, paper fan to cool off whenever you feel sweaty while Stern suggests keeping a facial mist in your bag for “a refreshing boost.”
A mist to try: Shu Uemura Depsea Water Facial Mist, $24

Tip 4: Use a Primer
“[It] helps makeup cling on to skin a little tighter for longer-lasting grip and keeps you from getting oily and greasy during the day,” Green says. Another option (great for guys too): Dab a little bit of anti-shine gel under or over makeup to take down the gleam of oily skin.
Try: Lola Refine Shine Anti-Shine Gel, $24
